Mattannur is a town in Kannur District. Mattannur Shankaran kutty Marar is a famous Thayambaka artist from Kerala. He is the main artist of the Thiruvambadi melam of Thrissur pooram. He got several awards for his contributions to the traditional art forms of Kerala which include Kerala Kalamandalam award and Kerala Sangeetha nataka academy award.

Pancharimelam is a classic performance of different musical instruments. The instruments used in Panchari melam are Chenda, kuzhal, ilathalam and kombu.
In Panchavadyam we use Timila, shudha maddalam, kombu, idakka and ilathalam.
