In Kerala we can see lot of rubber plantations. Rubber plantations are a vital part of our economy also. We are the highest producers of rubber in India. Rubber is not a native plant. Dutch colonialists started rubber plantations here. India is one among the top 10 rubber producing countries in the world.
The sticky latex produced by the tree is processed to make natural rubber. A rubber tree is productive for 20 years. Rubber plantations are increasing because of its easy to control and needs less nurturing compared to other crops. It provides daily income to the growers and workers. Rubber tree is used to make furnitures.

As per the records first rubber plantation was in Mundakkayam which is the gateway to highrange.
