Arthritis

Arthritis is really inflammation of joints. When joint is arthritic, swelling and tissue damage cause pain and stiffness. As the disease progresses, the range of motion of are gradually decreased, so that the joint becomes increasingly stiff. The most frequent forms of the disease are Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis.

Osteoarthritis-Normally results from a deterioration of the cartilage pads at the end of the bones. Joint begins to grate like a rusty gate instead of operating like a well oiled machine. Most commonly this affects knees, hips and spine-usually begins in the 50s or later. Pain and stiffness are the most common symptoms.

Rheumatoid arthritis-is a more severe, whole body disease. In addition to the stiffness patients experience inflamed joints, overwhelming fatigue, muscular stiffness, loss of appetite and weight. Most commonly affected are the joints of the fingers, toes, wrists and knees. Shoulders, hips, elbows and ankles may also be involved. In advanced cases joints become twisted and useless. This disease my affect heart, lungs, nerves and eyes.
